Climbing Rehab

The research behind what a clinic tells climbers about injury.

Research Intern under Miguel Zevallos, DPT2025 – PresentOngoing

Climbing Rehab is a physical therapy practice for climbers. I do the research that its public education is built on: more than 20 literature reviews and syntheses on climbing biomechanics and injury mechanisms, which become the practice's blog and social media content, including brand collaborations. I also help run in-person injury clinic events.

How a Piece Gets Made

  • Start from a climber's question. Are push exercises useful? What are the early signs of an overuse injury? What happens to a wrist in a fall?
  • Read the primary studies. I find the papers, read them in full, and build a study table: who was studied, what was measured, what was found, with a DOI for each.
  • Synthesize. I write a research-anchored summary in plain language that says what the evidence supports and where it runs out.
  • Hand off. The practice turns the synthesis into blog posts, reels, and carousels.

Why It Matters to the Rest of My Work

Reading this literature closely is how I learned where climbing research is thin: there is very little movement data tied to what climbers report feeling. That gap is what the Dynalytix dataset is built to fill.
